Movie Monitor Pioneers Video Download Comparisons; Tracks Thousands of Movies to Watch Online

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 13, 2009 -- A new website, Movie Monitor, has been launched by a New York-based technology startup, Movie Monitor LLC, to help movie watchers make sense of the rapidly-expanding online video on demand (VOD) industry.

Movie Monitor is the first website to provide a comparison of online movies (http://www.moviemonitor.com), listing the availability, pricing and quality of more than 150,000 on-demand, streaming and downloadable movies across the web’s leading providers and for all major genres, including new releases, action and adventure, documentary, foreign films, comedy, drama, independent films, classics, fantasy and science fiction, and kids. The service currently monitors six sources of movie downloads (http://www.moviemonitor.com): Amazon On Demand, Blockbuster (which provides downloads through an alliance with CinemaNow), Hulu, iTunes, Netflix, and Vudu, and there are plans to add additional sources--including YouTube--before the end of the year.

The service tracks movies available for both rental and purchase, and includes a comparison of quality (SD, HD, and HDX), a database of critically acclaimed films, and links to reviews on other sites. It also tracks movies available for home delivery in DVD and Blu-ray format through Netflix and Blockbuster, although the company is clear that it believes online delivery is the future. “In five years, feature films will no longer be distributed on physical media,” said Paul Nicol, Co-Founder of Movie Monitor. “Instead, we are seeing the growth of a highly competitive online delivery industry, and the emergence of free, ad supported, pay-per-view, and subscription-based services means that a comparison site is essential to watch movies online (http://www.moviemonitor.com).”

On-demand movie services are being assisted by alliances with hardware manufacturers, enabling users to watch streaming content on their TVs using devices such as the Roku player, Apple TV, XBox 360 and PlayStation 3 game consoles, TiVo devices, and select TVs, Blu-ray players and home theater systems. Movie Monitor also provides a summary of these methods of viewing on-demand content on a television set.

Action Adventure DVD Galore
Recently I stopped into a movie store to pick up a flick for some Wednesday night entertainment. While I am not one for romantic comedies per see and do enjoy a bit of action in a film, as well as a bit of adventure, I was a bit confused by the action adventure DVD section. Is it action or adventure or is it a mere catch all for some stereotypically male movies? Needless to say I did not find an action adventure DVD that would be fitting for our varied tastes but the mission did elicit a curi ...
